Delphine Evette Appleby Burton was born July 20, 1959 to the late Royce Appleby, Sr. and Grace Jackson Appleby in Talmo, GA. Delphine attended the Jefferson City public schools and graduated from Jefferson High School.
One of eleven children, Delphine loved her family and committed to helping as many as her time and resources would allow. She was a hard worker, retiring in 2018 from the University of Georgia’s School of Ecology after more than 29 years of dedication and service to the institution. Delphine’s favorite pastime was traveling which she did often and encouraged others to do the same.
She gained her wings on Wednesday, August 5th, 2026 and was proceeded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, 6 sisters, and a great granddaughter (Nova M. Lester).
Left to cherish precious memories are her husband; Rev. Richard L. Burton, Sr. of Athens, GA, three daughters; Ronee L. Burton, Min. Renae L. (Gold) Daniel, and Richelle L. Burton of Athens GA, two sons; Richard L. (Shannon) Burton, Jr. of Loganville, GA and Jeffrey R. Burton of Athens, GA, one sister; Donnette (Michael) Parks of Alabaster, AL, thirteen grandchildren (to include her caretaker Jocelynn Burton); eight great grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
