In Loving Memory of Katherine “Kat” Echols Bell

In the early morning hours of August 27, 2026, Katherine “Kat” Echols Bell departed this earthly life and entered into eternal rest, joining God’s heavenly angels.

Katherine was born on May 16, 1946, in Oglethorpe County, Georgia, to Dock and Ruth Echols, Sr. At an early age, she joined New Bethlehem Baptist Church, where she remained a faithful and devoted member. Katherine was a proud graduate of Oglethorpe County Consolidated School, Class of 1965.

Kat faithfully served on the church usher board for many years and proudly held the position of President for the majority of her years of service. Her dedication to her church and her love for people were evident in all that she did.

Katherine was employed with Belgrade and Delmar for many years, where she developed lasting friendships with her coworkers. Following her retirement from Delmar, she began a new chapter in her life by working part-time at Madison County School District for several years before retiring once again.

Katherine was preceded in death by six brothers and three sisters, and leaves two sisters-in-law, Annette Edwards of Atlanta, Georgia, and Annie Echols of Athens, Georgia.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories and continue her legacy: her two sons, Stacey (Ofelia) Bell of Memphis, Tennessee, and Tracey (Gwendolyn) Bell of Stafford, Virginia; her daughter, Leisa (Phillip) Wells of Norfolk, Virginia; and her beloved niece, Ruby Fleming, who was raised in her home and held a special place in her heart.

She also leaves behind six grandchildren: Tracey Bell Jr., Jasmine Bell, Terrance Bell, Aleisa Kendrick, Tianna Bell, and Michael Kendrick; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.

Kat will be remembered for her loving heart, her strength, her dedication to family and faith, and the countless lives she touched throughout her journey. Though she is no longer with us physically, the memories she created and the love she shared will remain in our hearts forever.

The family of the late Katherine Echols Bell wishes to express our sincere gratitude and heartfelt appreciation to each and every one of you.
