Larry Leslie Hemphill was born on April 21, 1954, to the late George and Dorothy Hemphill, Jr. On Wednesday afternoon, August 19, 2026, Larry peacefully took his flight to that unknown land prepared for him.

Larry was the third of five siblings. He received his education through the Athens-Clarke County public school system and graduated from Clarke Central High School with the Class of 1972.

At a young age, Larry joined Springfield Baptist Church. Later, he moved his membership to New Dorsey Tabernacle Baptist Church, where he faithfully served the Lord and his church family. His service included the Usher Ministry, choir, and Sunday School. He also served on the Deacon Ministry and was honored to become Chairman of the Deacon Ministry under the leadership of Rev. H. L. Dotson and Rev. Richard Moss.

Larry was preceded in death by his beloved parents, George and Dorothy Hemphill, and his brother, Michael Hemphill.

Larry leaves to cherish his precious memories his devoted wife of 45 years, Alice Hemphill; two daughters, Leslie (Demetrick) Hemphill-Morse and Alicia (Kareem) Bridgers; and his godson, Travis (Temekea) Richardson. He is also survived by his two sisters, JoAnn Ford and Carol (Howard) Hill; his brother, Roosevelt (Carrie) Hemphill; twelve grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers-in-law; five sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Larry will be remembered for his love of family, dedication to his faith, commitment to his church, and the many lives he touched throughout his journey. His presence will be deeply missed, but the memories of his life, love, and service will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

May his soul rest peacefully in the arms of the Lord.
